  • Young People’s Choice: PREMIÈRE LIGNE

première ligne @ young people’s choice
    sunday 12 oct 7:30 p.m. werkstattkino
guests: Robinson Drossos, Mathieu Sauvat, Sol & Lilith Klaus (Young Curators)
    Tickets
Spatiality. Localization. In the room. On the screen. The protagonists of our program are seen, see, and search. In the room. On the screen. On the move. With Première Ligne@Young People’s Choice, we want to invite on a journey through sounds and images that blur the boundaries between reality and virtuality, between documentation and fiction. Those who search obsessively walk a fine line between finding and losing. Upon closer examination, the concept of searching appears as broad as what is found remains distant. At the beginning of every search is a desire – a dream of something to be achieved. Next comes the question: “How to search?” Research. From home. On the internet. On the go. Outside. With the help of others? By chance itself? We too have been searching. For young films and filmmakers. In and between France and Germany. The result is a program in which the interplay of each of these unique films has led to something new. Something worth losing yourself in. We found it after all, and for that reason, we are all the more eager to show it to you. – Sol & Lilith

Première Ligne is a young film festival in Saint-Médard-en-Jalles, near Bordeaux, dedicated to the debut works of emerging directors. We are delighted to welcome this collaboration.

    Echoes

    © Robinson Drossos

A contemplative adventure into the depths of a noisy world. Guided by a distant melody echoing through concrete and rock, we follow a character wandering in the dark. Strange places take shape in the glow of his torchlight, and the sound of water droplets on the ground punctuates his footsteps. In the distance, we hear muffled music.

    How to excel at everything

    © Marion Balac

Two Pokemon-like friends embark on a journey together to master every skill possible through online tutorials. Freely adapted from Flaubert’s ”Bouvard et Pécuchet” (1881), the film explores the dynamics operating in our current era of online self-study and YouTube tutorials. Guided by algorithmic recommendations, B and P try to learn everything without any pedagogical compass, falling into a new rabbit hole everyday.

    Les mystères de l’horizon

    © Mathieu Sauvat

More than five years ago, I drew this shape for the first time, almost unintentionally. Although the mysteries concealed within this symbol had not yet revealed themselves to me, I had already decided to name it: A mystery. I wished I could step into this dream. I searched for a place where the lines traced by the roads would draw a mystery. The Horizon: it is in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. Divided into four chapters, my film is an initiatory documentary narrating the pursuit of a dream at the borders of reality. – Mathieu Sauvat
