    2020 | 15 min

The short film was inspired by a nighttime cab ride to Athens airport. A car ride, as French speed theorist Paul Virilio writes in his book “Driving Driving Driving…”, is a cinematic experience for a passenger. The windshield is the screen, and the gear engaged affects the speed of the images. A drive at night becomes a film, the car an abstract object.

Pop satire about marketing language in the age of the climate crisis: the fear of the climate apocalypse is instrumentalized to seduce to greater consumption. The installation is a pop-up store, familiar from sales campaigns in shopping malls. It is about consumption and the climate crisis, but also about hedonism and a guilty conscience.

In the late 1970s, the government of Taiwan decided to store some of its nuclear waste on Orchid Island (Lan-Yu), 65 km off Taiwan’s southeast coast, home to the Yami people, who for centuries lived as an isolated tribe by fly-fishing. Tricked by the government, the tribal chief signed a contract to build a fish cannery that turned out to be a nuclear waste repository. After more than 30 years of protest by the Yami, the government decides to solve the problem with a new, decentralized storage strategy.

From the shore of the Pacific Ocean, only smoking factory chimneys can be seen in the dense haze where the sea should actually be. Sometimes dimly. The split screen is designed to look like an open book, in which the diffuse visibility of the chimneys slowly moves from the left to the right side. The arrangement of the chimneys forms a bowl shape. The constellation provides space for various associations and references to current issues. The recordings were made in 2007 and were shaped into this video in the Corona year 2021.

Every technical system that pretends to possess artificial intelligence must be taught beforehand. The technical images needed for development have been produced, transferred and traded as commodities globally since the spread of digital photography and the Internet. A dataset consisting of 68.8 hours of video footage was produced entirely by independent Internet workers distributed around the globe. These show various spaces in a family’s home. Predefined actions to be learned by the AI are performed in front of the camera.

The performance, always adapting to the new contexts of the exhibition, searches for 100 ways of being within the camera’s framing, while the performance becomes visible on the transmission monitor as a complete work of art. Both, the performance and its image in the video, thus emerge in the localization of the artistic self directly in the medial space of the filmed image.
