”Projekt” depicts the site of the International Trade Fair in Lagos as a transhistorical conglomerate of different perspectives by becoming itself a space of encounter and collaboration.

Young people from Brussels play a well-known European memory game, in which players must repeat and then add to an ever-growing list of items that they would take with them on a trip. But there’s a bitter twist to this version of the game: all the items need to come from a packing list of 8,000 objects from a colonial expedition to the former Belgian Congo. The list includes a spear, ten beetles, an ivory horn, an elephant-hair chain, and 140 meters of film of pygmies fighting.

It is not the first time that Jacques Tati comes to mind in a film by Josef Dabernig. Both like to appear in front of the camera in their quiet humor, both let non-sites and “nowheres” become the main actors and mistrust the spoken word; the language of the objects is eloquent enough. – Regina Schlagnitweit

The film was made as part of Public Art Munich as an intervention in public space.
