Haneda Sumiko, born in 1926 in Dalian/China. She studied at the Jiyu Gakuen and joined Iwanami productions in 1950. From 1953 she worked as an assistant director and wrote scripts for industrial films. 1977 she made her first independently produced documentary. Since 1981 she works as an independent film maker and had made over eighty documentaries.
