    Joy of the Worm
    2023 | 12:00 / 1:00 min loop

R: Eunju Hong | C: Eva Nappée, Isu Kim Lee | DoP: Hee-Seong Han | M: bela – Why are you so lost sweetie side B

‘Joy of the Worm’ traces the mental journey of a young woman who wakes up and falls asleep through various camera lenses and devices between life and death, anaesthesia and fantasy. She gives birth to a robotic bird, but whether it originates from her womb remains unclear. This video questions the state of life and death from the perspectives of different beings. In Shakespeare’s ‘Antony and Cleopatra’, when Cleopatra attempts to kill herself with the venom of a snake, the Fool says: ‘He desires the pleasure of all worms (snakes).’ With these words of the Fool, this video attempts to invert the concept of ‘contemplation’ and look at the audience.

    I will take your shadow
    2022 | 18:56 min

    Video, Sound  |  19 min  |  English

In 1939-1940, the two brothers Jancsi and Bandi were forced to leave Vienna in flight from the Nazi regime. In search of a safe home, they sailed for several months aboard the refugee ship Darien II and reached what was then British Palestine. Today, the director, Jancsi’s granddaughter, is lost in her own dreams, which bring the past of the men in her family into her everyday reality. The untold turns into a search for all that is lost, yet persists and unfolds in its absence.

    St. Mickeyland
    2023 | 12:45 min

    Video, Sound | English, German

Welcome to St Mickeyland! In painting-like tableaux, a “reservation” inhabited by cartoon and media icons is shown, stimulating our childlike media memory. The assembled characters are in search of meaning in life, reflecting on their creation in the honeypot of capital. While Snow White learns stand-up paddling, Winnie the Pooh gives birth to a descendant and adds a dash of humanity to the fictional shell.

    binary tree : profiles : missing node | 2022 | 6:56 min, loop

    Video, Sound, Screen | English

The video “binary tree : profiles : missing node” shows a constantly changing superimposition of 8 portraits. Little by little, the individual faces become visible. Then they briefly introduce themselves and indicate a relationship to each other before disappearing again into the mass of the image. Everything about these people, however, is a fictitious and artificial creation; the starting point was various low-poly 3D characters whose faces were merged with the always identical headshot of a real person and then animated – to match the voiceover.
