  • Die ängstliche Verkehrsteilnehmerin (Losing Faith)

friday 6 oct 8:00 pm werkstattkino | guest: Martha Mechow, Hans Broich (production)
    ticket

The film unfolds like a bildungsroman, animated with the whimsical imagination of a folk tale. Flippa is its main character. Her mother has disappeared. We see her along the roads that lead her to her sister Furia and the witch-mothers of Barranconi in Sardinia. “Do you think this is why mama left? Because she couldn’t bear to pass on the rules of a world that steals our freedom?” With its caustic analysis of Jane Austen’s ”Persuasion”, a chainsaw slashing Christian symbols and the materialistic views on the exploitation of women, ”Losing Faith” is
a breath of fresh air that’s not afraid of the excesses or insolent vitality of its actors. – FIDMarseille

friday 06 oct 10 pm werkstattkino | guest: Norbert Pfaffenbichler
    ticket

The mad saga about the man in a monkey mask wandering through the torture garden of deviant delights continues. The second part of an intended trilogy, Norbert Pfaffenbichler’s ”2551.02 – Orgy of the Damned” picks up exactly where ”2551.01” left the stunned viewer craving continuation, and as with all great sequels you needn’t have seen the previous film to be thrilled by this one. Especially if you like slapstick violence, sick sex and pitch-black humour. – Christoph Huber

Allensworth, California, was founded in 1908 as the first settlement of African-Americans. As if in a wall calendar, Benning goes through the months with views of settlement houses that still have the structural signature of the early days. Only in August does he depart from the strict composition, with a girl reading an African-American poem. Another milestone in Benning’s very own “Americana”.

The proverbial dwarf uprising on Lanzarote was staged under the impression of the student revolt in 1968/69 and failed grandly. The film stands iconically for the world-famous credo of Werner Herzog’s filmmaking and can be considered the motto of UNDERDOX.
„In a way, the revolt of the dwarfs is not a real defeat, because for them it is a really good, memorable day; you can see the joy in their faces.“ (Werner Herzog)

But evil does not exist? Torture, mass extermination and genocide are still real phenomena of a nihilistic practice of war. The film weaves the shoals of extermination lust through fictionalised perpetrator confessions, based on real testimonies, into a dense web of meaning. A challenging film maelstrom and one of the most discussed festival films of the year.

What if a war becomes chronic and invisible? When it retreats into the earth and the epic landscape? A search for traces of the geopolitical fault lines in eastern Armenia, along the new dividing lines between Azerbaijan and Armenia that have emerged since the Nagorno-Karabakh war in 2020, he traces the geopolitical fault lines, following a flock of sheep.. Animals know no borders, the shepherd says – his flock of sheep becomes a very natural symbol of resistance to the war.

The Film Flamme collective of filmmakers, technicians and residents has been working in the
of filmmakers, technicians, residents and film historians. Film Flamme is an alternative form of resistance to the institutional model of cinema. It is a production, projection and restoration site that promotes filmmaking as an art of the margins and boundaries. The films belong to the present or emerge from the past and sketch possible contours of a political cinema of tomorrow.

France, a slum of Lyon, 2007. Bodies, faces, looks, places of life, of humanity. Romanians and Sinti-Roma, forgotten by society, without papers, without rights. The camera is not a judge, it establishes an instinctive relationship of consent in the simplicity of the first contact. There are no victims and no cause to defend. The splendour of the images allows the manifestation of happiness to blossom, even if the rest regurgitates the desiccated language of miserabilism. Eloquence of the silent film.

    Tatlin

    Aaron Nikolaus Sievers
    FR 2013 11 min | Super16

The Monument to the Third International by Vladimir Tatline was never realised. The
architecture was supposed to show a double spiral expressing the dialectical movement of thought. In the former workers’ housing estate of l’Abeille, in La Ciotat, Livario, a shipyard worker, is also planning to build a monument to the workers.

    La parole perdue
    The Lost Word

    Marc Scialom
    FR 1969 9 min | Super16

The film was made in memory of the Bizerte massacre of July 1961 and all the colonial wars. Two voices alternate, one male, the other female. The woman seems to be urging the man to say something that is close to his heart and oppressing him. As for him, he utters words without any follow-up, the whole of which ends up signifying his rejection of war and its horrors. The video features expressionist style drawings evoking the sinister nature of weapons, as well as fleeting images of real crowds – both military and civilian.

This reel, found in 2018, has just been digitised at the Cinematheque in Cagliari (Sardinia). The first draft of a film shot in Cuba on the sidelines of an official speech.
”Slowly, the memories come back to me. It’s a nice souvenir of a trip, started in Santiago de Cuba during the carnival and Castro’s big speech on 26 July 1964. It would make a nice propaganda film, but it’s not a propaganda film.” – Bruno Muel

    Mineurs

    Ouahib Mortada, Lo Thivolle
    FR/MA 2020 45 min | DV | French

In Morocco in 2001, in the province of Jerada, the mines were condemned. On May Day, there were no more celebrations or carnivals. In the town centre, motorists in crisis are fighting for their cans of petrol at the Shell pump. On the outskirts of the douars, the miners follow the same paths as in the past, having become illegal immigrants on their own land. Today, the youngest are twelve years old, and they tell us about their shattered destiny in the funny, serious way of the people of this country.

L’abeille de Déméter (Une comédie antique)

    Raphaëlle Pauper-Borne
    FR 2014 56 min | French | Super16, Super8

As part of a group project run by FilmFlamme at the Cité des Abeilles in La Ciotat, the filmmaker conjures up the myth of Demeter. An epic film, in every sense of the word. The film also reveals its construction, until the border between myth and reality is no longer so distinct…
Disconsolate, Demeter wanders in search of her daughter Persephone. Eternal Olympian gods feast and bathe, Persephone is constantly kidnapped and the young girls flee. Zeus builds the connections of time. At each crossroads, new directions emerge and human beings meet. Cinema is a player in time, and we are caught up in the magic of light magnified by 16mm film.
