Sometimes the curtains are pushed aside to let some light into the interior of the house, but the windows are rarely opened. It’s dark where the three Jordanian women live. They are safe from the outside world, but even here, there’s no escape from the memory of the violence they’ve suffered. Close-ups not only reveal the circles under their eyes, but also allow the women to step out from the shadows of their trauma: “I am not what is left over, I exist.”
